This week, we’ve found a very handy gadget that we deem worthy to be proclaimed “gadget of the week” here at Concourse. What appears to be a regular DC/car USB charger plug, actually holds a charger and a backup battery. Granted the built in battery is a mere 900mAh, but that is enough for half a charge of most (smart)phones, or in most cases, just enough to prevent major problems from dead batteries.
The powerdash r900 comes with a MicroUSB charger cord which can be used to plug into your phone, or to charge the unit itself so you always have it ready for use. You can of course also charge it when it is plugged into the DC socket of your car or airplane seat. Quite a few airlines still offer DC/car style power jacks in their seats. You’ll find everything you ever wanted to know about in-seat power over at our good friends at SeatGuru.com. The power output is 2.1A when plugged into a car or other outlet, and 1A from its built in battery. This means that it will charge and power an iPad or other tablet in your car, and most smartphones when on battery power.
