Meet Elena Bean – Gogo Business Aviation’s February High Flyer!
How long have you been at Gogo and what do you do?
I have been at Gogo for three and a half years as a Visual Designer.
How did you get into marketing and where did your love of design come from?
I have always liked to draw! When I was little I did a lot of water colors. I really got into branding when I got my Bachelor’s degree in graphic design in Russia. I grew up in Russia in Togliatti, a town that is a 90-minutes flight southeast of Moscow. After I graduated, I worked in branding agencies in Moscow such as BBDO, one of the largest ad agencies in the world. In 2012, I moved to Minnesota with my boyfriend at the time (now husband) who lived in Russia for five years. Shortly thereafter, we moved to Canada where he went to school and I worked as a Freelance Designer. I even started to learn French! We decided to move to Denver after looking at a few cities. We just love Colorado … I had planned to continue working in agencies but responded to a posting by Aircell in the marketing department. The team was working on the company rebranding, so I helped create Gogo Business Aviation’s new identity!
FROM ANDY GEIST: SVP, Sales
“Elena exemplifies Gogo’s core values in all her efforts to build our brand within Business Aviation. Her work, great attitude, and relentless drive for results are all key to our success in the markets we serve.”
What do you love about your job?
Simply put, I just love to transform messages into something visual!
What is your favorite Gogo perk?
What brought me here and keeps me here is the people! And the view from the Ray conference room is breathtaking!
What do you do for fun when you are not at work?
Besides typical Colorado activities, I love to travel, draw, go to the gym and spend time with my family.
Best thing about Colorado?
The climate is the best! You can’t beat over 300 days of sunshine.
“Don’t stop until you’re proud.”
FROM NEAL ROBERTS: Director, Brand & Creative
“Simply put, Elena is wickedly talented. Through her considerable design chops, the Gogo Business Aviation brand has become the dominant, recognizable leader of our industry. As if that isn’t enough, she is a single designer supporting the full BA division – and she routinely shows that her capacity to deliver results is as tremendous as her skill in execution.”
How do you find a balance between work and home?
When I am out of the office I switch completely over to other things. It helps to have a lot of quality time with my family and recharge my brain for the next day. I have a 15-month-old daughter, Victoria, who keeps me more organized! I have to be a morning person now: She wakes up every day at 5 a.m. on the dot.
What is the best career advice you have been given?
Make decisions quickly! There are thousands of graphic solutions for every project so you need to choose the optimal solution immediately to get things done on time.
What is an interesting fact about yourself most people don’t know?
I practice calligraphy and I have no sense of direction!
