Planning a trip is exhausting because you never know what the weather is going to be like from one destination to another. Deciding what to wear on your trip needs some planning and forethought.
It all starts the moment you walk through security. The Transportation Security Administration rarely makes exceptions to its standard procedures so pay attention to the rules (unless, of course, you’re planning to change your outfit sometime between the security gate and the departure gate).
Belts, Socks and Shoes
Belts are important, but consider wearing an clothing that doesn’t need one. There’s no way to get past security with your belt on unless it doesn’t have a metallic clasp. Even so, some TSA officers will require that you remove it. The less metal on your person, the smoother you’ll pass through security.
Everyone has to take off their shoes going through security and the floors are cold. Avoid cold feet and wear socks. Plus, even in the tight quarters of an airplane, no one really wants to be sitting next to a person not wearing socks.
For some people, traveling is a time to show off their rad footwear. Unless you are a pro at walking in those shoes and removing them in a matter of seconds, stick to simplicity. Generally speaking, fancy shoes aren’t the most comfortable. For women, skip the fashion forward footwear and wear something comfortable like sneakers or slip-ons.
As for actual clothing, wearing layers is always a good idea. Whether you’re traveling from a warm environment to somewhere cold or vice versa, layers won’t hurt to keep yourself from freezing when you get on and off the plane. Plus, some people feel that airplanes are quite cold so it’s best to dress warmly for the entire flight.
Dark colors are preferred when traveling. They can disguise beverage spills and hide wrinkles. In addition, anything with pockets can save you time if you’re in a rush or you need a handy place to put your ID and boarding pass.
Airplane seats are tight, so make sure to wear comfortable clothing. Tight clothing often reduces the blood flow. Stick to stretchy clothes. For both men and women, jeans are always a favorite go-to option.
When it comes to traveling with children, over-dressing them is better than under-dressing. If you’re on a red-eye flight, dressing children in pajamas will help them sleep through the flight. Don’t forget to bring blankets and extra clothing just in case.
